On February 27th, 2010 at 3:34 A.M. local time an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude hit Central Chile. It produced a massive tsunami which was recorded thousands of kilometres away in Japan and many other locations across the Pacific Ocean. One of the most affected places from this tsunami was the small Pacific archipelago of Juan Fernández. It’s well known, with the main and biggest island being Isla de Róbinson Crusoe. The island is inhabited by approx. 600 people, most of them involved in fishery, which is their only source of income.

Just several minutes after earthquake hit Chile, a tsunami devastated most of the island which used to be a paradise-like location in the Pacific Ocean with its most welcoming, cordial inhabitants. Almost all coastal buildings (approx. 60% of all buildings at the island) have been totally destroyed from the giant waves of Pacific waters.

This website is an international, non-profit initiative by enthusiasts of amateur radio who wish to help inhabitants of Juan Fernández. You can help to restore the island’s infrastructure and its islanders by donating to this project. Browse this website to learn how…
