The disaster
A tsunami hit Juan Fernández on February 27th, 2010 at 3:34 A.M just several minutes after an earthquake of magnitude 8.8 on the Richter scale hit western Chile. The wave of several meters hit the island with speed of almost 700km/h demolishing all coastal buildings and infrastructure. 10 people died and 7 still missing after the disaster. Many inhabitants of the island lost not only their homes but everything they achieved in their lives. Many of them still need professional hospitalization and care. Estimated value of damages at the island is $100.000.000,
